Great news for gardeners! - Groundskeeper project update

At Disconnected Energy we’re always looking to find new ways to make sustainable living easier. One of the exciting projects we are working on at the moment is our Groundskeeper product.

At its core, this product is a sustainable horticultural management system, with its own self contained power generation and back up battery. With no need for a connection to a mains grid power supply and the ability to use collected rainwater to irrigate plants it is perfect for isolated growing locations in gardens, greenhouses, 🌻allotments or smallholdings.  But as this is a Disconnected Energy product it, of course, does sooo much more than that!.

As keen gardeners ourselves we were frustrated with the basic watering systems which are widely available. They did not provide water evenly along the irrigation pipe and being simple, dumb, timers often: overwatered already wet ground; watered when the sun was high, scorching delicate leaves; or irrigated when the ground was frosty, causing foliage to freeze.  What we wanted was a product that could look after our precious plants in an intelligent way - our own personal groundskeeper!

At Disconnected Energy, we pride ourselves on providing high quality, well designed and thought-out products which make our customers’ lives easier, so once we have an initial product design we carry out extensive field testing, to ensure that it can do what we claim, in real life conditions (we don’t go in for overblown marketing BS here).  This extended testing period also allows us to identify extra features that can be included to further improve the product for our customers.

We've been field testing the Groundskeeper for over two years now and the results have been really promising.  The tests have proved that our groundskeeper system can provide automatic watering, of filtered water from a water butt at mains water pressures, meaning all your plants get water not just the ones nearest the tap.  Its advanced features have protected plants from overwatering and from being damaged by watering in inappropriate weather conditions.  We've had some really lovely feedback from our test sites too which has helped us identify even more clever features we can include in the next version.

We anticipate that the updated Groundskeeper will be available in our shop this summer,  so watch this space, or follow us on our socials to be kept up to date on this and other exciting developments!
